The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

I had heard so many things about this book, both good and bad and I have to say that I didn’t really intend on reading it as I’m usually not the biggest fan of books about the fey. But I kept seeing it on bookstagram and booktube and then I saw some really beautiful and intruiging character art and I just grabbed it one day at the library.

First off, I didn’t really like the main character Jude, I think she acted sort of irrational and her motivations where all over the place. She just kept doing things that seemed to come out of nowhere and without thinking about them, and sometimes she even thought that she should do one thing and then did the complete opposite. The reason I kept reading was mostly because I like court intrigue in books and I was curious. I also had an epiphany regarding Cardan, and I realised he reminded me of Logan in Veronica Mars, and I instantly started to like him a wee bit and wanted to know more about him. I feel like the book picked up a bit when there was 150 pages left and really got interesting. There were some twists and turns, some not very surprising but also some I didn’t expect.

Overall I gave this book 4 stars and I was curious as to what happens next in the story.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

This was a reread since I first read A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas around the time it was first published. I think it was actually one of the first books that booktube made me read and I enjoyed it at the time, but I never picked up the sequels. So I reread this book with the intention of finally finishing this series. I’m not really sure how I feel about this book, I do like it, but at the same time it felt like there wasn’t that much that happened. Maybe that’s because I know who Feyre ends up with and the first book feels a bit odd to read when you know that…This very much feels like a first book, and like the other books will expand the world so much more and make what is happening more interesting…

3.5 stars.

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

I finally read all of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. I’ve started this book many times before, but I’ve always been distracted by another book and never finished it. This time I listened to the audiobook, and it was a really nice experience. With all of the songs that are in this book it was nice to have a narrator singing them and bringing the story to life with pretty distinct voices for each of the characters. The story and the world is classic for a reason and even though I feel that Tolkien isn’t very good at characterization and descriptions of battles I did like this book. This will probably be one of those books that you love more every time you read it.

I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

What I did for love by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

I reread one of my favorite romance novels, which is What I did for love by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

In this story we follow actress Georgie York after her husband has left her for another woman. At the same time her own career as the spunky romantic heroine is on the rocks and she is generally in a bad place. When in Vegas she runs into her detestable former co-star Bramwell Shepard, and they wake up married the morning after. Since Georgie doesn’t want to have to live through another scandal she convinces Bram to stay married and fake a relationship with her. Hilarity ensues!

Something I love about all of Susan Elizabeth Phillips books is that they are about more than the romance between two people. I love all of the other characters we get introduced to and get to know, at the same time we get to follow Georgie as she reevaluates her life and makes the decision to stand up for what she wants in life and to not put everyone else’s needs before her own.

This is a five star read for me…always

First.

My first blogpost, well I might have done this in the wrong order but who cares.

You see, I started a bookstagram because I decided that I wanted to share my thoughts on all of the books I read. It was also a way for me to take the time to reflect on the stories and to prepare for my future occupation as a librarian. I’m currently a student at the University of Borås (Sweden) where I’m studying Library and information science, and I just finished my second year (out of three). I’ve only had my bookstagram for a couple of months, but I feel like most bookstagrammers don’t actually review books on there. So I thought that perhaps I should get a blog too, so I did, and here we are.
